Happy Psych Day

Well, it’s Psych Day for me, anyway. Today my first novel, Psych: A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Read, officially hits the bookstores. So what better day to launch my blog?

I will definitely pick up your book. When is it available in Canada?
I am a writer who was cast in a bit part here in Vancouver(my lines were cut though). It was the Shawn versus the Phantom or something like that. The comic convention was going to be blown up. Working on set for four days was enjoyable.
If you ever see it – I am the guy who wears the Galactic Gladiators shirt and is mainly in the GG display booth promoting my comic book series (real comic that I am turning into a screenplay).

I have seen that episode — first season, I think — but now I’ll have to go back and look for you!
And the book should be available in Canada as we speak.

Now that you mention the comic book covention episode…I was wondering why Shawn mentioned San Antonio a couple of times during the episode “Shawn versus the Red Phantom” (correct title, I checked my first season DVD box set). Apparently, James Roday attended Taft High School in San Antonio. He must have been tipping his hat to his hometown. Also found out that Jared Padalecki of “Supernatural” graduated from Madison High School in San Antonio. Tommy Lee Jones lives in San Antonio. Jackie Earle Haley and Thomas Gibson live in San Antonio. Eva Longoria and Ricardo Chivaria as well. What gives? But I digress…the reason I’m here is tosay: just finished the book. Loved it. When’s the next one?

July 6. Thanks for asking!

I was flipping through “Psych” looking for a scrap of paper with a number on it when I came across a character description that I must have glossed over while reading and watching my 5-year-old on the monkey bars: “…it could have been a ton of potatoes stuffed into a jumpsuit.”
Wow.
Then, reading on, I found another line that I missed “…eyes narrowing into sniper scopes.”
Again with the “wow.”
I wonder what other gems I’ll find if I were to read it a third time.

I love the book! Henry doing scrapbooking was pure genius, it made me laugh! A tough guy like Henry doing scrapbooking! Bringing a harpist for the final reveal to do the music is pure Shawn. I laugh when Gus said, “We don’t have flashbacks. This is real life, not CSI.” Especially when in the show when Shawn does reveal the culprit, they use a grainy flashback sequences! I love how you wrote Shawn’s vision in the book. Was that harder to do in written form than on the show? You capture this characters great! All the witty dialogue that makes this show one of my favorites were there. Steve Franks should be pleased.
Anyways, kudos on a job well done. I can’t wait for the next book. Is it about magic?

Thank you so much for the kind words about the book. I’m really pleased you liked the way I handled Shawn’s visions. It’s not hard to do, but — simple as it is — it took a little while to figure out how to do it. What they do on the show is so clear and clean I wanted to find some kind of equivalent for that.
And yes, the next book is about magic.

Read the book and loved it.
Lent it to my mom and she loved it.
Lent it to my sister and she loved it.
Lent it to my coworker and I just got a text from her saying she’s halfway through reading it and she’s laughing out loud.
So the end result would be that you made four people very happy. Thank you.

Well, since you’ve already ordered, I guess I can admit that there are no pineapples in book one… But I promise that within the initial three-book run, you’ll find plenty of them.
